What to expect at the 2016 Grammy Awards

2016 Grammy Nominations are out

Music's biggest night is almost here as artists gear up for the 58th Annual Grammy Awards at the Los Angeles Staples Center on Monday. Pop queen Taylor Swift is the latest performer to be added to the lineup; the singer will open the show with a song from her hit album "1989." LL Cool J will host the show for the fifth year in a row.

Swift is nominated for seven awards this year, but one star with even more nominations will perform on stage that night: Kendrick Lamar, who is nominated for 11 awards. Lamar has the chance to make Grammy history if he wins Song of the Year for "Alright" as the first rapper ever to win the award. He may also become the first rapper to win Album of the Year for "To Pimp a Butterfly" since Outkast took the prize in 2004 for "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below."

The Weeknd, who also picked up seven Grammy nods, tying with Swift, will perform at the Grammys as well. All three musicians are up for Album of the Year, and the other two nominees, the Alabama Shakes and Chris Stapleton, will also perform at this year's ceremony.

Other highlight performances on Grammys night will include a tribute to the late Glenn Frey of the Eagles by his bandmates Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh, along with singer and songwriter Jackson Browne. Frey died Jan. 18 of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia at the age of 67.

Lady Gaga will pay tribute to the late David Bowie; the performance will be a "multisensory tribute." Nile Rodgers, who worked with Bowie on the 1983 hit "Let's Dance," will be the musical director for Gaga's tribute. Bowie died of cancer last month just days after releasing the album "Blackstar."
