What happens when candidates try to use emojis
It started out with a simple enough question from Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to her followers on Twitter:
How does your student loan debt make you feel?
Tell us in 3 emojis or less.
— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) August 12, 2015
A few people took the question seriously:

@HillaryClinton 😖💀🆘
— Tina Baylocq (@tinabaylocq) August 13, 2015
@HillaryClinton 💸😱😭
— Ian Rivera (@ianrivera) August 13, 2015
There was also some predictable backlash to the question:
How does it feel that your Donors are responsible for the crippling student debt? Tell us in 3 emojis or less. @HillaryClinton @LauraKeeney

Hey here's you avoiding State Dept record-keeping laws 📧🔐🍻 @HillaryClinton

How does the @HillaryClinton email scandal make you feel? Tell us in 3 emojis or less!
— Howie Carr (@HowieCarrShow) August 12, 2015
And of course some pointed out the, ahem, grammar problem with original tweet:
I think you mean three emojis or FEWER. @HillaryClinton

But at the end of the day, Clinton - or the person managing her Twitter account - wanted to let everyone know they knew it was a bit of a disaster:
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
