Shooting at Ohio Walmart leaves 4 wounded and gunman dead, police say

Four people were shot Monday night at a Walmart in Beavercreek, Ohio, by a man who walked in and started firing, police in the Dayton suburb said.

Three of the victims are in critical condition and the fourth victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Beavercreek police said in an update Tuesday morning.

Police first received a 911 call shortly after 8:36 p.m. about a man walking into a Walmart with a rifle; the suspect then opened fire in the middle of the 911 call, Acting Chief Captain Chad Lindsey said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.

Police arrived within three minutes of the 911 call and less than five minutes later the shooter was found dead from a self-inflicted wound. Officers did not fire any rounds, police said.

The suspect, an unidentified 20-year-old male, shot and injured three women and one man. Police said the victims are "steadily improving."

FBI Cincinnati Field Office Assistant Special Agent Zrinka Dilber said the FBI is looking at the shooter's background and motivation.

Dilber said it is still very early in the investigation process and asked the public to assist the FBI by calling and providing any tips

On Sunday night in Alaska, two people were shot and killed outside a Walmart in south Anchorage, and police said they were searching for a suspect.

Police found the bodies of a man and woman behind two trucks in the parking lot, near the store's entrance. A firearm was also found, police said in a statement issued late Sunday evening.

Police released few other details but did say they believed it was an isolated incident.
