Vigil marks 2 years since Mich. mom's disappearance

NORTON SHORES, Mich. -- A vigil was held on Sunday in a small Michigan town, marking the two-year anniversary of the disappearance of a young mother in 2013, reports CBS Detroit.

Volunteers reportedly gathered Sunday to pray and post fliers, in an effort to continue the search for Jessica Heeringa.

Authorities believe that the 25-year-old Heeringa was abducted on April 26, 2013 from the gas station where she worked. Previous reports state that the mother of a young son was working the late night shift and was the only person in the store at the time of her disappearance.

Police say that there was no indication of a robbery, as her purse, vehicle and other personal items were left behind. DNA tests show that a small amount of Heeringa's blood was found outside the gas station.

In the weeks following the disappearance, tips began flowing in and a description of a vehicle, a silver Chrysler Town & County minivan -- as well as a possible suspect -- was later released.

Four persons of interest were reportedly interviewed and cleared as suspects, according to police. They also mentioned that the gas station didn't have a security camera and there were no signs of a struggle or robbery.

Investigators initially thought that a body found floating in a Western Michigan lake months afterwards might be Heeringa, but it did not match her description, officials said.

Anyone who may information regarding her disappearance is asked to contact Silent Observer at 231-72-CRIME or call 911.
