Victim in YouTube sex abuse case speaks to "48 Hours"

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- In an interview with "48 Hours," a woman who confronted her former teacher and alleged abuser during a phone conversation she posted on YouTube said she was tired of staying silent.

"I got sick and tired of keeping this all in," Jamie Carrillo told correspondent Tracy Smith.

In Jan. 2014, a 28-year-old Carrillo posted a video on YouTube of a phone conversation with then-40-year-old Andrea Michelle Cardosa, in which she accuses the woman of sexually abusing her 16 years earlier when she was a 12-year-old student at Chemawa Middle School in southern California, and Cardosa was a coach. Cardosa appeared to acknowledge the crimes during the phone conversation.

A second woman identified only as Brianna came forward a short time later claiming Cardosa similarly sexually abused her when she was 15 and attending Tomas Rivera Middle School in Perris.

Cardosa was arrested Feb. 3, 2014 and CBS Los Angeles reported that she was charged with 11 counts of lewd acts with a child under 14 years old, five counts of forced sexual penetration and multiple sentence-enhancing allegations of targeting more than one victim in a sex crime.

Carrillo learned that Cardosa was an assistant principal at a California high school, and told "48 Hours" she wanted to stop her alleged abuser from committing more crimes.

"It was like a nightmare, I was living it again," said Carrillo, who said she was abused by Cardosa until she was 20. "But I needed to do this to overcome everything that happened."

Cardosa pleaded guilty to three counts of sexually abusing two girls. In Feb. 2015, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Saturday, "48 Hours" investigates a different case of teacher sex abuse, speaking with Kristen Cunnane, a former student abused by another female teacher. In the hour, Cunnane also confronts her attacker.
