U.S. stocks slip as economic growth lags

NEW YORK - Stocks are slightly lower in midday trading after the U.S. government said economic growth slowed more than expected in the summer.

Companies including Buffalo Wild Wings and camera maker GoPro plunged Thursday after reporting weak earnings. The drug company Allergan rose sharply after it confirmed it has held talks with rival Pfizer about a sale.

The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 51 points, or 0.3 percent, to 17,728 as of 12:17 p.m. ET.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell three points, or 0.2 percent, to 2,087. The Nasdaq composite gave up 18 points, or 0.4 percent, to 5,078.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.16 percent.
