Man stabs self after standoff with 11 kids near Atlanta

DECATUR, Ga. -- A SWAT team was deployed early Monday to a standoff involving two adults and as many as 11 children at a DeKalb County hotel, CBS Atlanta affiliate WGCL-TV reports.

WGCL reports the situation began a man with a knife holed himself up after a domestic dispute with a woman. It ended when police stormed the hotel room and the man stabbed himself in the neck.

The incident went down in a room at the Rite4Us Inn & Suites in Decatur. The hotel was evacuated and a nearby road closed.

DeKalb County Police Major Tonya Dedrick told WGCL the children, ranging from three months to 17 years old, and the adults were in the room when the situation began around 2 a.m.

It was unclear what prompted the incident.
