2 charged after woman fleeing alleged robbery is struck by truck
CHICAGO -- Two man have been charged in the death of a Chicago woman struck by a pickup truck while fleeing an armed robbery late last month.
Authorities say 32-year-old Pamela Johnson was struck by a truck after a group of men started chasing Johnson and her boyfriend on May 29. The mother of a 12-year-old boy later died at a hospital.
Her boyfriend was treated at the same hospital and has since been released, reports CBS Chicago.
Twenty-year-old Devonte Dodd and 18-year-old Semaj Waters were each charged with murder, attempted robbery and mob action. Judge Adam Bourgeois set bond at $500,000 for Waters on Saturday. Dodd was due to appear in bond court Monday afternoon, according to the station.
The day after Johnson's death, police released surveillance video in the hopes that they would get to question at least eight people who might have played a role in her's death, according to CBS Chicago.
Police say they identified the people allegedly responsible because of witnesses and parents cooperating with the investigation. Additionally, some of the young men turned themselves in, claiming they were chased by other men with guns.
Family members have said Waters was running from the same gunman as the couple.
