Trump approval rating after Syria strike, and armed road rage

U.S. views

In the wake of the first significant military operation ordered by President Trump, and America’s first military operation directly aimed at Syrian dictator Bashar Assad’s regime, we gauge the country’s ever-fluctuating opinion of Mr. Trump in a new CBS News Poll.

Syria policy

The White House appears split on President Trump’s doctrine in Syria, with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley at odds over how to handle President Bashar Assad after last week’s missile barrage on the Syrian airbase said to be behind a chemical weapons attack on civilians.

Left alone

Abdel Hameed al-Youssef has become the face of Syria’s civil war -- a young man captured in a photo soon after losing 29 of his family members, including his wife and twin babies. Now safe in Turkey, the bereaved father talks to CBS News about losing his children, and the ceaseless war in his country.

Armed and raging

The number of road rage incidents involving guns is on the rise, according to a report out by The Trace, a nonprofit gun control advocacy website. It shows there were at least 620 gun-involved road rage incidents in 2016 -- more than double the figure from just two years earlier.

Corporate “bros”

Why do allegations of sexual harassment seem to afflict certain companies more than others? Although the sexist attitude that feeds such misconduct can be found in any business, it tends to crop up more in organizations with some particular traits. Is a corporate “bro” culture to blame?

Closing signs

It’s already been a tough year for U.S. brick-and-mortar retailers, with industry stalwarts such as Macy’s, Sears and JCPenney all announcing significant layoffs and store closures. As ecommerce absorbs an ever larger share of consumer spending, some analysts think there may be worse to come.
