Tropical Storm Philippe dissipates, speeds away into Atlantic
MIAMI -- Philippe, once a tropical storm, is pushing away into the open Atlantic, easing conditions in Florida and the Bahamas.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said the storm's center was about 290 miles south of Cape Hatteras in North Carolina and is moving north-northwest at 46 mph, according to the latest (and last) advisory.
The storm had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph. NHC now classifies the storm as "remnants of Philippe."
Heavy rain on Saturday had caused the National Weather Service in Miami to expand a flood watch to include parts of South Florida, CBS Miami reported. Portions of South Florida, including coastal Collier, inland Collier, and mainland Monroe were urged to take precaution. The flood watch extended until 4 a.m. Sunday.
