Thousands of amazing Apollo photos reveal man's first lunar encounters

Thanks to the Project Apollo Archive, you can now browse through a veritable treasure trove of original Apollo pictures.

Space enthusiast Kipp Teague has been diligently maintaining the online repository of digital images from NASA's Apollo lunar landing program since 1999. His toil is any space-lover's gain -- and it just got better.

Teague recently updated his archive with thousands of historic Apollo images provided by NASA's Johnson Space Center (JSC) in their original full-resolution glory. Even with today's technology that can create crystal clear images from 1 million miles away, or take a high-def video of Earth from space that can capture cars driving down the streets of Boston, the 40-or-so-year-old film pictures are still pretty much mind-blowing.
