Mission Baghdad
In his first visit to the war zone since the launch of U.S. airstrikes against ISIS, reports CBS News correspondent Margaret Brennan, Secretary of State John Kerry helicoptered into Baghdad under tight security today to meet new Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al Abadi, whose government is a cornerstone in the Obama administration's plan to combat the militant group.

As President Obama prepares to speak to the nation tonight about his plans to confront ISIS, the head of Kurdish intelligence, Masrour Barzani, tells CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley that U.S. airstrikes are "very useful," but not enough to defeat ISIS. Barzani says the Kurds are talking to the White House about getting heavy armaments for their military.
Year later
One year ago, Mr. Obama delivered a prime time address from the White House to explain his strategy in Syria, keeping open the possibility of conducting airstrikes there. Tonight, Mr. Obama will once again address the public about the turmoil in Syria and the surrounding region, and he may once again discuss the option of airstrikes. But this time the president will be talking about a problem barely mentioned in last year's address: the rise of Islamic extremists that the administration now says pose a threat to U.S. interests.
Hostage parents
Austin Tice is a lot of things: Eagle Scout, Marine Corps captain, journalist -- and hostage. He was taken in Damascus in 2012. CBS News' Clarissa Ward reports that, for his parents, Marc and Debra Tice, the last two years have been agony, waiting for news of their son. But nothing could have prepared the Tices for the horror of the executions of American journalists James Foley and Stephen Sotloff.
Apple revelations
Yesterday, Apple introduced two new iPhones, its long-awaited Apple Watch and a mobile payment system, as part of a marketing blitz aimed at drumming up consumer excitement. Apple announced Apple Pay, which will enable the new devices to work like a more secure credit card. Now the question is whether the new gear will live up to the hype.
No trial?
There's video of NFL star Ray Rice apparently hitting his then-fiance, Janay Palmer, in an Atlantic City elevator, knocking her off her feet and into a railing and rendering her unconscious -- yet prosecutors declined to put him on trial for felony aggravated assault, even after a grand jury indicted him. Why?
911 Museum
Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave "CBS This Morning" anchor Gayle King a tour of the 911 Memorial Museum. As chair of the museum's board, he revealed his plans for the first ceremony at the memorial on the attack anniversary, and discusses why he returned to his namesake company.

Scotland is in the middle of a referendum campaign on whether it should break away from the rest of the United Kingdom and become an independent country. And in just the last week, reports CBS News correspondent Mark Phillips, the polls have tightened to the point where the vote is now too close to call.
