Thieves steal 2 specially-designed vehicles that helped disabled man

ARCADIA, Calif. -- A disabled California man is furious upon learning that two of his vehicles have been stolen. According to CBS LA, these are no ordinary vehicles and their owner is in complete shock.

The only wheels Steve Bolstad has to get around these days are from his wheelchair.

According to the station, the 49 year-old paraplegic now has to ask for rides to and from his doctor's appointments after someone stole his truck, trailer and treasured race car that were parked at an Extended Stay Hotel in Arcadia.

"In disbelief, I am still in disbelief. It's my life, that's what I live for," Bolstad told the station.

Bolstad discovered his black pick-up and red trailer with the race car inside were gone Monday morning, reports the station. He raced both the truck and car which were specially made so that Steve can do what he loves to do -- despite his paralysis.

"The truck was lowered, I paid to have it lowered so I can get in easier," he explained.

He told the station he spent 15 years working on his '73 Vega -- also customized for him.

"Took Harley Davidson motorcycle handle bars, cut them, stuck them in a wheelchair, arm rests, shaft so I can tilt forward for the brakes and I had a brake lever, it was a gas pedal," he said.

Bolstad believes the thieves will have a hard time selling the various engraved parts -- and the cars being tailored for a paralyzed driver truly limits interested buyers.

Earlier this week, a Long Beach man also had his truck, trailer and race car stolen.

Police in Arcadia are looking into whether these crimes could be related.
