There's a “Muppet Babies” reboot on the way

Disney is ready to introduce a whole new generation to the “Muppet Babies,” thanks to a newly announced plan to reboot the 1980s animated series.

Disney Junior announced Wednesday that production had already begun on a new, CG-animated version of the show -- originally a hand-drawn animated spin-off of “The Muppets,” featuring the popular characters as toddlers -- with an expected premiere date on the cable channel sometime in 2018.

The original “Muppet Babies” series ran on CBS Saturday mornings from 1984 to 1991.

“We are proud, and a little bit giddy, to begin production on our new version of the much-loved ‘Muppet Babies,’” Disney Junior’s Nancy Kanter said in a statement. “Parents will delight in seeing their favorite Muppets in the mixed animation style they remember from the original series, and kids will be introduced to this warm and zany world made just right for the Disney Junior audience.”
