"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" trailer: Rhino, Electro hit Times Square

The new year saw the arrival of a new trailer for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2."

To help celebrate the ball drop, the latest preview for the upcoming sequel made its debut in Times Square on New Year's Eve, complete with a video introduction from 91-year-old franchise creator Stan Lee.

The minute-long trailer is comprised almost entirely of scenes fittingly set in Times Square on New Year's Eve, as Spidey (Andrew Garfield) and Jamie Foxx's Electro trade blows in front of 39 million spectators.

In addition, the clip features a couple of new scenes with Rhino, played by Paul Giamatti.

The film also stars Dane Dehaan, Emma Stone, Chris Coopper and Sally Field.

Marc Webb, who directed the 2012 reboot, returns once again, while Jeff Pinker, Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci provide the screenplay.

Webb and his screenwriters are also part of a creative team working on "Venom" and "The Sinister Six" spin-off films, along with "Spider-Man 3" and "Spider-Man 4."

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" slings into theaters on May 2.
