Texas pitbull disappeared during flood, found 2,000 miles away

SAN MARCOS -- A dog that was separated from his owners during flooding in Texas this past spring has turned up safe more than 2,000 miles away. Thor the pitbull will soon be headed back to the Lone Star State after being found in California, CBS DFW reports.

The Hurtado family, of San Marcos, was forced to evacuate their home because of flooding from the Blanco River on Memorial Day weekend. They sadly had to leave their three dogs behind. They returned and found two of the animals safe, but Thor was nowhere to be found.

Flash forward to September when Thor turned up in Crescent City, California. A police officer there found the dog and took him to the local animal shelter. No one knows how the dog traveled so far from Texas, but thanks to a microchip staffers at the shelter were able to track down his owners.

At first it seemed as though the story wouldn't have a happy ending. You see, the Hurtado's are still trying to repair the water damage done to their home back in the spring and simply couldn't afford to have Thor shipped back home to Texas.

When the story got out about the family being separated from their beloved dog, two Texas Good Samaritans chipped in to cover the cost of Thor's trip back home. And with the help of a long-haul truck driver from California, who regularly makes runs to Texas, the dog and family will soon be reunited.
