Tennessee firefighter sought in woman's shooting death

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Police are seeking an off-duty firefighter suspected of murdering a woman outside a department store in Tennessee, reports CBS affiliate WREG.

Authorities in Memphis are seeking Ronald Ellis, 51, in the shooting death of 33-year-old Torhonda Cathy, who was gunned down in a Target parking lot Monday afternoon, according to the station.

The Commercial Appeal reports the victim was taken to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition. She later died.

Police said Ellis and Cathy had previously been involved in a "troubled relationship" and that the shooting did not appear to be random. WREG reports the victim was shot once while sitting in her car, and then again several times as she tried to run away.

The station reports officers surrounded the suspect's home on Monday, but he was not inside.

Ellis began working for the Memphis Fire Department in 2003, according to the Appeal.
