Arrest after mom shot dead at her toddler's birthday party

DYERSBURG, Tenn. -- An arrest has been made in a shooting at a child’s birthday party that left one woman dead and six others wounded.

According to the Dyersburg Police Department, Torius Russell, 30, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. His bond is set at $2.5 million.

Police say they believe Russell was the only person involved.

Shanice Amerson, who was 21 and a mother of two, was killed during a party for her 2-year-old son in Dyersburg, Tenn.

Seven other people were wounded in the Thursday night shooting.

According to a police statement, Those on the scene were there to celebrate the birthday when a man walked up in the street and opened fire on the crowd.

CBS affiliate WREG reports that Dyersburg Mayor John Holden confirmed there was an incident earlier in the day at the same residence.

Authorities think the two are related and this act of violence was not random.
