Teenage girl dies in car during violent storm

TIMONIUM, Md. -- A 14-year-old girl was killed after a tree fell on a car during a storm in Maryland, trapping three others inside.

Baltimore County police said in a statement Friday that Ahjee Lawrence, an eighth-grader from Cockeysville, was in the back seat when the tree fell on the Hyundai Sonata in the Timonium area on Thursday evening.

A 16-year-old girl, a 13-year-old girl and Ahjee's mother, who was driving the car, were taken to hospitals with injuries that aren't thought to be life-threatening.

The Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company used a crane to remove the tree from the car. Ahjee was pronounced dead on the scene.

The crash happened as storms swept through the Baltimore area. Police spokesman Cpl. Shawn Vinson says authorities are investigating whether the weather played a role.

There were also reports of an injury at Pine Ridge Golf Course in Lutherville, where a golf cart was smashed and dozens of trees were destroyed, CBS Baltimore reports.
