Teen waives hearing in friend's death, seeks juvenile court

MOUNT PLEASANT, Pa. --The attorney for a 14-year-old Pennsylvania boy charged with killing his 13-year-old friend while they played with a gun wants the case move to juvenile court.

Attorney Richard McCague tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that's why he waived a preliminary hearing on criminal homicide and weapons charges Wednesday.

The Associated Press isn't identifying the suspect because of his age. He's charged as an adult with killing James Gustafson, another seventh grader at Mount Pleasant Junior/Senior High School, on March 20. The boys were at a friend's apartment when the shooting occurred. Nobody else has been charged in the shooting and authorities haven't said who owned the gun.

McCague told the newspaper after the hearing that "everyone here this morning believes" juvenile court is the "best place" to resolve the case.
