Teen pleads guilty to stabbing death of homeless man

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A Cape Coral, Florida teen has admitted to murdering a homeless man when he was 13 years old, reports CBS affiliate WINK.

Yoel Munoz, now 14, pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder and burglary, and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Police had said that in August 2014, the teen went to a homeless camp with a knife and killed 51-year-old Thomas Bergstrom.

Authorities said Munoz then ran back home covered in blood. Investigators later found a knife and a bloody mask belonging to Munoz at the scene, WINK reported last year.

In court, the teen admitted he knew the victim, adding that the two used to smoke weed together. Munoz also said the night that Bergstrom died, he was trying to steal the homeless man's drugs, according to the station.

After finishing his prison term, Munoz will reportedly spend 15 years on probation, while being required to attend mental health and anger management counseling.
