Teen charged in child's hit-and-run death arrested again

NEW YORK -- A teen driver accused in the 2013 hit-and-run death of 4-year-old Ariel Russo has been arrested again for allegedly hitting and dragging a police officer, CBS New York reports.

Franklin Reyes, 18, was arrested in New York City over the weekend, after dragging an officer 100 feet while speeding away from a traffic stop, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office said.

Reyes is accused of fatally running down Ariel while fleeing from New York City police in June 2013.

Ariel died after authorities say the sport-utility vehicle Reyes was driving jumped a curb while she was walking to school with her grandmother. Authorities said Reyes only had a learner's permit at the time.

He is charged with manslaughter in that case. A trial date is set for Sept. 24.

In June, Reyes and his father were charged with looting an apartment in a building where the father worked as superintendent.

Police said the father-son duo swiped $2,000 worth of jewelry, cash and electronics from a tenant who had died of brain cancer.
