Tax relief for some Hurricane Irma and Harvey victims

Gov. Rick Scott on what's next for Florida after Hurricane Irma

The IRS announced a tax relief program for some victims of Hurricane Irma, extending deadlines for filing taxes and exemptions.

Taxpayers in the U.S. Virgin Islands affected by Hurricane Irma who would normally have had deadlines for filing their quarterly estimated income tax payments on Sept. 15 and Jan. 16 have an extension until Jan. 31, 2018. The extension also applies to the quarterly payroll and excise tax returns which were originally due on Oct. 31.

The IRS said in a statement that while the agency would automatically apply automatic filing and payment relief to those in the disaster zone, affected taxpayers who live outside the disaster area should call to see if they qualify. The IRS Disaster Hotline number is: 866-562-5227
