"T2: Trainspotting" looks very trippy, if the first trailer is any indication

The “choose life” monologue from “Trainspotting” has gotten a modern-day upgrade -- and the results are just as jarring.

Now filled with references to Facebook, reality TV, slut-shaming and watching history repeat itself, the new version of the speech for “T2: Trainspotting” by Renton (Ewan McGregor) still points an accusatory finger at middle class complacency.

If that and the visuals in the international trailer are any indication, audiences are in for quite the ride when Danny Boyle’s follow-up to the 1996 indie hit comes out next year.

“So what have you been up to for 20 years?” Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller) asks Renton, kicking off what looks to be a mash-up of nostalgia, drug addiction, aging and a new heist, with Spud (Ewan Bremner) and Begbie (Robert Carlyle) along for the ride as well.

While U.K. audiences will get to see it in January, “T2: Trainspotting” will have a limited U.S. release starting March 3, 2017 before going wide on March 10.
