Swedish doc accused of drugged fruit and an evil plan

STOCKHOLM - Prosecutors in Sweden say a doctor drugged a woman with strawberries laced with sedatives, then locked her in a soundproof bunker where he intended to keep her for years.

The 38-year-old man has been charged with rape and kidnapping in a case that unraveled when he entered a police station with the woman on Sept. 18. Prosecutors say he wanted to show police she was fine after learning she was listed as missing.

Defense lawyer Mari Schaub said Monday her client has confessed to all allegations except rape but wants the kidnapping charge reduced to a lower charge of deprivation of liberty.

She said he was depressed and devised his plan as a way to find a partner.

The trial is expected to begin next week.
