Cops: Suspect who slept it off with motor running packed heat

SEASIDE, Calif. -- Police say a convicted felon found drunk and sleeping inside a running car in a California coastal town was armed with a loaded revolver, according to CBS SF Bay Area.

Grady Clay, 45, was arrested Saturday in Seaside, Calif., on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and being a felon in possession of a stolen firearm.

Officers responded to a report of a man passed out in the driver's seat of a car that was blocking a street in the community about 100 miles south of San Francisco.

They arrived and said they found a man, later identified as Clay, sleeping while the engine was running.

Police reported finding multiple empty bottles of alcohol in the vehicle and said Clay showed signs of intoxication. When officers asked Clay to leave the car, someone spotted a large gun on the vehicle's floorboard near the suspect's feet, authorities told the station.

As a convicted felon, Clay is banned from possessing firearms. He was booked into Monterey County Jail, police said.
