Suspect sought in deadly shooting outside NYC deli

NEW YORK CITY -- The New York Police Department is searching for a man they say was captured on video firing the shots that left two men dead outside a New York City deli early Sunday.

Monday, police released the surveillance video, hoping someone who recognizes the suspect might come forward, reports CBS New York.

Police say the shooting happened around 3 a.m. Sunday in front of a deli at Broadway and 151st Street in Manhattan. Victims Kenny Jimenez, 21, and Francisco Mercedez, 29, were both shot to death.

At least one of the men was a target, reports the station.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic man wearing a short sleeved gray hooded sweatshirt, a black t-shirt, camouflage shorts and white sneakers. He is seen on the video firing several shots before fleeing and driving away in a car police describe as a white Nissan Altima with tinted windows.

"When they got shot, I was holding them," friend Hector Melo told CBS New York. "They died in my hands. It was crazy. I'm mad at myself -- I didn't see the person."

Melo told 1010 WINS' Al Jones he grew up with both Mercedez and Jimenez.

"They were great people; great, talented young men," he said. "And we want justice for both of them."
