Suspect in Brooklyn Bridge officer attack faces judge

NEW YORK -- One of the protesters arrested in the attack of two NYPD lieutenants on the Brooklyn Bridge last month went before a judge Friday, reports CBS New York.

A judge set a $25,000 bond for Jarrod Shanahan, 29, of Brooklyn. He faces charges of assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, obstructing government administration and rioting.

Shanahan was the fifth person to be arrested in connection to the attack after turning himself in on Thursday, reports the station. Seven people were seen on amateur video pushing, kicking and punching two officers on the Brooklyn Bridge on December 13. Two more suspects are being sought.

It happened at the end of a massive march protesting a grand jury decision not to indict a police officer in Garner's death.

Investigators say Shanahan kicked the police officers and pulled them away as they tried to arrest 29-year-old Eric Linsker, a Baruch College professor who police say triggered the melee by trying to throw a metal garbage can over the bridge railing, reports CBS New York.

Shanahan's family members and friends were at the arraignment Friday, where his lawyer fought for his release from custody without bond, reports the station.

In setting bond, the judge reportedly called the case "very troubling."
