Suspect charged in Miami exit ramp killing, police chase

MIAMI, Fla.--A suspect who is accused of shooting and killing a man in a wheelchair Tuesday, before leading police on a car chase, will remain behind bars, CBS Miami reports.

Rodney Louis, 27, is charged with murder, fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest, and grand theft.

Police say Louis shot and killed Israel Perez, 58, near an I-95 exit ramp. He then allegedly led police on a high speed chase that ended with a crash on I-95, where he was eventually taken into custody.

In his first court appearance Wednesday, Louis was denied bond.

CBS Miami reports that Perez was a fixture in the area who could be found on the same ramp asking for change nearly every morning.

Witnesses told the station Tuesday that they saw the shooter got out of his car on the ramp and fired six or seven shots at Perez, before returning to his car and speeding away.
