"Survivor: San Juan del Sur -- Blood vs. Water": Meet the castaways

"Survivor" has announced the cast for its 29th season, which brings back the "Blood vs. Water" format with castaways competing alongside (and against) their loved ones.

This season's group is made up of entirely new competitors, all hoping to outwit, outplay and outlast one another in hopes of being crowned Sole Survivor and winning the show's million-dollar prize.

Sisters and former "The Amazing Race" teammates Natalie and Nadiya Anderson (aka the "Twinnies") are one of the nine sets of loved ones. Former Major League Baseball player John Rocker is also competing with his girlfriend, model Julie McGee. The other pairs are made up of mothers, daughters, fathers, sons, dating couples and spouses.

This season also marks the return of Exile Island. Each week, two loved ones will square off against one another in a battle that will send the loser to isolation on Exile Island, while the winner receives reward for his or her tribe. However, the winner will also have to choose a tribemate to accompany their loved one to Exile Island.

"Survivor: San Juan del Sur -- Blood vs. Water" premieres with a 90-minute special Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
