"Survivor" contestant Caleb Bankston dies in train accident
Caleb Bankston, a competitor on "Survivor: Blood vs. Water," died Tuesday after a train accident. He was 26.
Bankston worked at the Alabama Warrior Railway in Birmingham, Ala., and was working on one of the trains when it suddenly derailed, TMZ reports.
Bankston appeared on the CBS reality series in 2013 alongside fiance Colton Cumbie. He finished the show in ninth place.
"Survivor" host and executive producer Jeff Probst remembered Bankston as "one of the most humble and likable contestants we've ever had the pleasure of working with on the show."
"The entire Survivor crew is together in Nicaragua," Probst said in a statement. "We are shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of Caleb. He was one of the most humble and likable contestants we've ever had the pleasure of working with on the show. A true gentleman. He will be missed by so many. We extend our most sincere condolences to his family and to his fiance, Colton."
News of his death sent shockwaves through the "Survivor" community, and many spoke out to pay tribute.
"Caleb was an amazing man and friend," fellow contestant Aras Baskauskas told People. "One of the sweetest and most sincere humans I've ever come across. I am gutted by his loss. My thoughts and prayers are with his family."
Today the world lost one of the kindest most chill dudes ever to grace this earth. Caleb, we love and miss you.
