Surveillance cam catches UPS driver kicking fragile package

WESTBURY, N.Y. - A UPS driver is in trouble after he was caught on camera mishandling a fragile package with sensitive contents at a suburban New York firm.

Ray Martel of East Hills Instruments and Westbury, N.Y., said to CBS New York that he told the driver couldn't accept a package cash on demand. When he began to take the package out, the driver begins to kick and roll it out of the door.

Martel said the driver was recorded mishandling the package on a surveillance camera after he had returned to his desk.

"We have a hand truck he could have used. He has one. I know they all have one in their truck. But I guess laziness got to him," said Martel.

Inside the package was a $12,000 nitrogen calibration system and Martel said he warned the driver that the contents of the package were delicate.

The company receives packages from UPS daily and says it never had a problem with the delivery service before.

"UPS does not condone this specific driver's behavior," spokesperson Andy McGowan said. "We are investigating the issue and will take corrective action with this driver."
