Sunday: CIA Director Pompeo, Paul, Barbour

A new record high for the stock market and warming relations between North and South Korea ahead of the Winter Olympics were sidelined this week by startling revelations of a dysfunctional White House in Michael Wolff's new book "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House." The book has rattled Washington and the Trump administration and pitted the president against his former political advisor Steve Bannon.

This weekend, the president plans to meet with top Republicans at Camp David to build consensus on immigration reforms, a sticking point in the looming debate to keep the government open and funded past January 19.

Across the globe, North Korea and South Korea reopened communications for the first time in almost two years as leaders of the two countries plan to meet face to face next Tuesday. This week, Mr. Trump tweeted that he'd played a role in facilitating the meeting, and he also announced his decision to cut off over $1 billion in security funding to Pakistan. And as anti-government protests continue in Iran, Mr. Trump attacked the country's supreme leader, Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Twitter for corruption, funding terrorism and causing economic ruin.

This Sunday, CIA Director Mike Pompeo will join "Face the Nation" to talk with anchor John Dickerson about these foreign crises and outline the administration's positions on each.

We'll also have Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, on the program to discuss Congress' priorities in January tied to the looming budget deadline this month, as well as international tensions. This will be his first Sunday show appearance since being injured in an altercation with his neighbor at his home in Bowling Green, Kentucky, in which the senator suffered broken ribs and other serious complications.

For some analysis on foreign affairs, former deputy director of the CIA and CBS News Contributor, Mike Morell, and former Obama national security adviser, Tom Donilon, will join the program as a part of this week's special national security panel.

As always, we'll have our expert political panel to break down this week's headlines, including analysis on the takeaways from "Fire and Fury." Co-founder of Axios, Mike Allen, National Political Correspondent at TIME, Molly Ball, and Senior Editor at National Review and CBS News Contributor, Ramesh Ponnuru, will join us.

To round out the program, former Mississippi Governor and Republican National Committee Chairman Haley Barbour will join "Face the Nation" to evaluate his party's prospects for the 2018 midterms and to assess the Trump administration's success in its first year.

The first week of 2018 began as busy as ever with lots of news to unpack, so make sure to check your local listings and tune into "Face the Nation" this Sunday.
