Student's new ride after DWI arrest? A "Barbie Jeep"
SAN MARCOS , Texas -- A Texas State University student has found creative wheels after her license was suspended following a DWI arrest - she's now riding around the San Marcos campus in a child's Barbie Jeep, reports My San Antonio.com.
Junior Tara Monroe tells the website her license was automatically suspended after refusing a Breathalyzer test after a Waka Flocka concert. She was reportedly arrested March 4 on DWI charges and released on $3,000 bond, and her father took away her vehicle.
Left with only her bike to get around, the 20-year-old "Barbie girl" bought the Jeep for $60 on Craigslist - and named it Charlene, after the little girl who was its previous owner.
"When we drove up to buy it Charlene asked where the little one was to test drive it to which I replied, 'I am the little one,'" Monroe told the website.

She's taken the battery-powered vehicle, which tops out at a speed of 5 mph, out for a spin on the campus of Texas State and the University of Texas at Austin West, as bewildered onlookers have posted photos and videos to social media. The images have since gone viral, along with the hashtag, #barbiejeepgirl. One tweet has been re-tweeted nearly 1,000 times and garnered more than 1,000 "favorites."
Monroe said she was surprised by the response online.
"This is the best way I could have gotten my 15 minutes of fame," she told the website. "Basically, it was the best decision I've made in college, yet."
