Student charged with murder of Murfreesboro, Tenn. woman
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - An arrest has been made in the homicide case of a 22-year-old woman who was found dead in her Murfreesboro apartment, reports CBS affiliate WTVF.
Murfreesboro Police Department spokesperson Kyle Evans said a warrant was issued for 22-year-old Brandon Richmond Bowling in the murder of Heather Maples, according to the station. Bowling was taken into custody and booked into the Rutherford County Jail around 3 a.m. Saturday and formally charged with first degree murder.
Maples's body was found at The Cove Apartments by a friend after she failed to show up for work at the front office of the complex, reports the station.
Investigators said they believe she was at Gentleman Jim's Bar from 10:00 p.m. until midnight the night before. From there, Maples went to The Handlebar on East Main Street until 12:45 a.m. and then went back to Gentleman Jim's, reports the station.
Around 2 a.m., she reportedly returned to her apartment, police said.
According to the station, detectives said it was not a random crime and that she knew her attacker. It was not clear how they connected her to Bowling.
A close friend of Maples told the station that she was not a student at MTSU, and she began working at the apartment complex in April. She had recently moved to the area from Texas.
