"Straight Outta Compton's" Corey Hawkins to star in "24" reboot

Corey Hawkins, who played Dr. Dre in the hit film "Straight Outta Compton," will play the lead in Fox's upcoming reboot of "24."

That means Hawkins will essentially be the Jack Bauer of "24: Legacy," reports The Wrap. He will play Eric Carter, who Fox described as "strong and smart" with a rough upbringing. Carter plays a man whose life changed for the better after his time in the Army Rangers. After returning to Virginia with his wife Nicole, he finds himself jumping into action again as his trouble comes back to haunt him.

Viewers will see Carter stop what could have been one of the biggest terror attacks in the U.S.

Fox has not yet named Hawkins' female co-star. The one-hour drama won't include Bauer in the reboot.
