Stephen Colbert introduces his new "Late Show" bandleader, Jon Batiste

Stephen Colbert shaves face to prepare for "Late Show" debut

Stephen Colbert (now sans "Colbeard") has named Jon Batiste as the new bandleader for his new "Late Show."

Batiste, who is from New Orleans and studied at Juilliard, hails from a long line of celebrated musicians in Louisiana and grew up playing percussion and then piano in his family's band. He also appeared as himself on the HBO series "Treme."

"His music makes the audience feel so good, we may have to install a 'Do Not Make Love' sign," Colbert said in a statement Thursday announcing the news.

Batiste added, "I'm thrilled! This is a match made in heaven. Get ready for a love riot in late night."

He succeeds Paul Shaffer, who was the "Late Show" bandleader during David Letterman's tenure.

"The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" premieres Sept. 8 on CBS.
