Stepfather arrested in shooting death of Texas teen

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas --Police say a Texas man shot and killed his teenage stepson after the boy used a stun gun on his mom, reports CBS affiliate KEYE.

George Coryell, 46, was charged with murder after the Sunday shooting, which police say began when a woman attempted to use a stun gun on her son, 17-year-old Felix Nieves. The boy was able to wrestle the stun gun from his mom, and use the device on her several times, police say.

Coryell told police he witnessed the altercation, and retrieved a .45 caliber handgun from his nightstand, attempting to fire the weapon without success. He then grabbed a double-barrel 12-gauge shotgun and confronted Nieves.

Police say that by the time Coryell approached Nieves with the shotgun, Nieves was unarmed and no longer assaulting his mother. But Coryell allegedly fired two rounds, striking and killing Nieves.

Coryell is currently in the Guadalupe County Jail. His bond is set at $250,000.
