Standoff leads to shelter in place order near Philly

LEVITTOWN, Pa. -- A standoff at a gun shop has led to a shelter in place order for residents of Tullytown, northeast of Philadelphia

It all started around 2 a.m. Monday when police got a call for a burglar alarm from Mike's Gun Shop, reports CBS Philly.

Police say when officers arrived, they found someone had forced his way through the shop's roof.

"There is a subject we believe to be on the roof who committed this burglary," says Tullytown Borough Police Chief Daniel Doyle. "We're unsure whether or not he's armed. We don't have lights up there, we don't have people with a set of eyes up there."

Negotiators at the scene were trying to contact with the man, CBS Philly says.

Doyle says it's unclear if the suspect is alone or if there is more than one person involved. He says they either need to make contact, or they need lighting or daybreak to determine what they're dealing with.

For now, Doyle says, they're trying to communicate via a PA system, but so far no response.

He says no decision has been made about closing schools.
