Southern California brush fire forces evacuation

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Authorities have called for the evacuation of about 30 homes below a wildfire that's burned two square miles of brush in Southern California's Cleveland National Forest.

Orange County fire Capt. Mike Petro says the evacuation was called around 6 p.m. Friday for homes at the bottom of Silverado Canyon.

The fire has been burning uphill and away from those homes all day but Petro says there's a chance that down-canyon winds could start up and push the flames back toward the homes.

About 300 firefighters, aided by aircraft, are battling the flames spreading through tinder-dry brush in the midst of a weekend heat wave.
