Son of ESPN writer missing for more than a week in N.Y.

CHARLOTTE, New York -- A college student and son of an ESPN writer has been missing for more than a week in western New York, reports CBS New York.

Max Maisel, 21, is a junior at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, reports the station. He was seen by classmates leaving his campus apartment Feb. 22. Police found his car the next day, parked at a pier near lake Ontario.

His family, from Connecticut, have joined in the search.

"We don't know where Max is, and that's very hard to deal with," said Max Maisel's father, Ivan Maisel. "We have a lot more questions than we do answers."

Ivan Maisel is a sportswriter who covers college football for ESPN and previously worked at Sports Illustrated, reports the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. He told the paper his son was last seen by a passerby getting out of his car at the Charlotte Pier, an area he was familiar with because it was about a mile from his family's vacation home.

When the passerby didn't see the student return to his car, he reportedly contacted police.

Ivan Maisel and his wife Meg released a joint statement Sunday about the disappearance of their son, a photography student.

"While (law enforcement officials) have urged us not to leap to any conclusions about Max's fate, logic indicates that it will not end well," the statement read, reports the paper.
