Son charged after father choked, beaten to death

MEXIA, Texas -- Police say a Texas man choked and beat his 86-year-old father to death with a pistol, reports CBS affiliate KWTX.

Karl Nussbaum, 47, is charged with murder and fabricating or tampering with physical evidence related to the death of his father, Harold Nussbaum, according to police affidavits.

Karl Nussbaum allegedly admitted to detectives that he beat and strangled his father, according to police. He reported Harold Nussbaum missing on Friday afternoon. The victim's body was discovered Saturday evening near a lake.

Police said in the affidavit that blood was found splattered on furniture and the floor where the Nussbaums lived. Karl Nussbaum had been living with his father since from to Mexia from Austin about two months ago, after he and his wife began divorce proceedings, according to police.

Karl Nussbaum allegedly brought police to several locations where he had disposed of evidence, including bloody clothing, the affidavit said.

The suspect was held Monday in the Limestone County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $900,000, jail records show.
