Small plane crashes onto train tracks in San Francisco Bay Area

HAYWARD, Calif. -- A small plane crashed on commuter train tracks in the San Francisco Bay Area, killing the pilot and disrupting train service.

Bay Area Rapid Transit spokeswoman Denise Gonzalez says the Cessna aircraft crashed near the transit system's transfer tracks in Hayward, east of San Francisco.

The incident was first reported at 11:57 a.m. Sunday, after fire officials received a report that a small, single-engine, 20-foot wingspan plane went down near 150 Sandoval Way, according to Hayward fire Capt. Don Nichelson, CBS San Francisco reported.

That ignited a fire and interrupted service around noon, hours before Game 7 of the NBA Finals in nearby Oakland.

Gonzalez says no other injuries have been reported.

Service stopped at three stations along a nearly 9-mile section of the Fremont line, but all of them reopened by 3 p.m.
