Small plane crashes onto cars at Reno airport

Three people in a small plane that crashed at the Reno Tahoe International Airport Sunday night were killed but no one on the ground was injured, reports CBS Reno affiliate KTVN-TV.

The station says the plane crashed into the long-term parking lot near the south side of the airport’s parking garage.

FAA Public Affairs Manager Ian Gregor says the single engine Piper PA-28 crashed on takeoff and all on board died.

The plane hit several cars in the surface lot at the airport.Much of the lot is closed as the FAA and NTSB probe continues, says airport spokesperson Brian Kulpin, adding that flight operations at the airport were back to normal.

FAA and Reno police and fire personnel were on the scene overnight.

“We are coming up with a plan to get people to and from the parking garage and that lot, and some of those vehicles will remain in that lot at least overnight because there is a debris field there, that makes it part of an active investigation scene,” said Kulpin.
