Sketch released in Fla. child abduction attempt

NORTH PORT, Fla. -- Police have released a sketch of one of two men who allegedly tried to abduct a 14-year-old girl on a southwest Florida street, reports CBS affiliate WTSP.

The teen was walking home around 4 p.m. Monday in North Port when she was reportedly approached by the men in a minivan. The passenger got out of the van and put his arm around her in an apparent attempt to force her into the vehicle, the girl told police.

She was able to flee and wasn't harmed, reports the station.

Police have released descriptions and a composite sketch of one suspect in the hope that someone with information will come forward.

Police say the driver was wearing a baseball cap. They describe the passenger as a Spanish-speaking man in his mid-20s, about six feet, three inches tall with a thin build, and wearing a square silver earring in his left ear. He was reportedly wearing a white tank top and jeans.

The vehicle is described as a newer, shiny black minivan with tinted windows and a dent above the passenger side front headlight.

Anyone with information is asked to call North Port police at (941) 429-7300.
