Singer Chris Brown accused of battery in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS - Singer Chris Brown is facing a misdemeanor battery charge in connection with a fight that is reported to have taken place at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas police said Monday that Brown is suspected of beating a man who was hospitalized earlier in the day with non-life threatening injuries.

The man said he was playing basketball at the Palms Casino Resort when he got into a verbal argument and was allegedly punched by Brown.

The man said he was defending himself when another person with the singer also hit him.

The man took himself to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Las Vegas police said they have given Brown the option to sign off on a misdemeanor battery citation or face prosecution by the Clark County District Attorney's office.

Authorities say Brown has not responded to the offer.

Brown was in Las Vegas over the weekend for a performance.
