Security threat forces airliner to circle back to airport

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --An "undisclosed security threat" forced an American Airlines jet flying from Charlotte to Minneapolis to turn around and return to its starting point, officials said Monday night.

American Airlines officials confirmed to CBS News affiliate WBTV that Flight 1865 experienced the threat, but did not specify exactly what it was.

The plane, an Airbus 321, departed from Charlotte at 8:43 p.m. and landed back at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport at 9:07 p.m. after being in the air for only 24 minutes.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the airport and gave the plane the all-clear.

The plane remained on the ground in Charlotte late Monday night.
