Search for missing Calif. toddler after mother found slain

SAN FRANCISCO --The search is ongoing for the missing 2-year-old daughter of a San Francisco woman found slain last week.

Police said Arianna Fitts is considered at risk because she's so young and because her 32-year-old mother Nicole Fitts was a homicide victim.

Nicole Fitts was found slain Friday after being reported missing a week earlier. She was last seen on April 1, according to police. Police released photos of the toddler Saturday.

Police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan declined to disclose other details about the killing or other circumstances of the case, citing the sensitive nature of the investigation.

Friends and relatives say they are waiting for news about the girl and hoping for her safe return as they mourn her mother's death.

Contessa Fitts told the San Francisco Chronicle that her sister, Nicole, was "a really good person."

Nicole Fitts, who went by Nikki, most recently lived in San Francisco and worked at a Best Buy store, her sister said.

"It's rough," Contessa Fitts told the Chronicle Sunday. "The thing that is keeping me going is that we're going to find Arianna. I have to keep finding information."
