Sean Penn sits down with Charlie Rose for interview

Sean Penn is speaking to CBS News in an interview with "CBS This Morning" co-anchor Charlie Rose.

The recapture of Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman took a surprise, Hollywood twist last week when a Mexican official said security forces located the whereabouts of the world's most-wanted trafficker thanks to a secret interview with U.S. actor Sean Penn.

Penn's interview with Guzman, who twice escaped from Mexican maximum security prisons, appeared last week on the website of Rolling Stone magazine. It was held at an undisclosed hideout in Mexico in late 2015, several months before Guzman's recapture on Jan. 8 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, after six months on the run.

Now Penn is sitting down with Charlie Rose. CBS News will air part of the interview with Penn on Friday on "CBS This Morning."

"CBS This Morning" runs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. EST.
