Scott Bakula cast in "NCIS" spinoff on CBS

"NCIS" is getting a new spinoff -- and Scott Bakula is set to star.

Set in New Orleans, the series will follow cases from Pensacola through Mississippi and Louisiana to the Texas panhandle. According to CBS, "New Orleans, with its rich setting of music, fun and debauchery, is a magnet for military personnel on-leave. And with fun comes trouble. It is a natural backdrop for a unique character driven spin-off."

Bakula will portray Special Agent Pride, a character described as conducting his work with passion, strength and humor. The show will kick off this spring as part of a two-part "NCIS" episode.

Bakula is a Golden Globe-winning winning actor who spent five years portraying Sam Beckett on the series "Quantum Leap." His film credits include "The Informant!" and "American Beauty." He recently appeared in HBO's Liberace biopic "Behind the Candlelabra" and can be seen in the HBO dramedy "Looking."
